Yes. Every SteadRig is built with room to grow. The SR 8 has 3 of its 8U open after the included network hardware, mini PC, and touchscreen, so you can add more computers, storage, a patch panel, or power management. Because it uses the standard 10-inch rack format, a wide range of compact gear and mounts will fit. Don't be discouraged by U space also. You'd be surprised what you can fit into a rack by planning components dimensions.

Need even more space? The MiniPC Sidecar mounts an additional computer on the outside of the rack. That adds compute without taking up a slot or adding heat inside the rack.

The Dell OptiPlex 7010 Micro has a max RAM of 64GB and a max storage of 4TB. The SR-8 MAX maxes out the included Dell OptiPlex.

• Schools and educators give students hands-on experience with real servers and networking, on hardware they can configure, break, and rebuild without touching school systems.
• Field teams take computing on site to events, job sites, and remote locations, where a portable rack sets up in minutes.
• Small businesses host file sharing, backups, internal tools, and monitoring without a server room or a growing stack of cloud subscriptions.

Many owners start with one project and keep adding. That’s what the open rack space is for.

Yes, for small and mid-size language models using free tools like Ollama. That's enough for a private assistant, document summarizer, or local voice control that keeps your data off the cloud. For AI, more RAM matters most, so the SR-4 (32 GB) and SR-8DD (32 GB per computer) have the most headroom. The RAM on both of these racks can be upgraded. Ask about custom orders! Large models and image generation need dedicated GPU hardware.
